Complete the waiting period
New memberships currently have a 24-hour waiting period. Membership is not retroactive, so a citation must be issued after the applicable driver's coverage becomes effective.

Receive an eligible citation
If the covered driver receives a traffic citation, review the violation against the benefits included with that driver's membership. Standard individual plans apply to personal, non-commercial driving only.

Submit your claim online
Report the citation through the secure member portal within 30 days of the citation date. Enter the citation details and upload clear images or files showing the front and back of the citation.

Contest or reduce it if appropriate
You may contest the citation or seek a reduction before paying it. If the matter is still pending, keep the claim open and upload court notices, amended charges, dismissal paperwork, or final-disposition documents as they become available.

We review the claim
UTS verifies the citation date, membership status, violation eligibility, required documentation, and the covered driver's available benefit. If additional information is needed, the claim will show an action-required status in your account.

Eligible reimbursement is processed
The requested amount initially defaults to the lesser of the eligible citation amount or the exact available benefit for that driver and subscription. Approved reimbursement is recorded against the applicable membership benefit.

Track everything online
Your member portal keeps your claim status, documents, messages, reimbursement information, membership history, and available benefit together in one place.
EXAMPLE
Reimbursement stays tied to the driver's actual available benefit.
Suppose an eligible citation is $200 and the covered driver currently has $83.33 of available benefit. The initial reimbursement request will default to $83.33.
If the citation is only $20 and the driver has at least $20 available, the initial request will default to $20. The member may request a lower amount, but cannot request more than the eligible maximum.

A few important membership rules.
Citations issued before the applicable membership becomes effective are not eligible.
Covered violations depend on the membership in effect for that driver when the citation was issued.
Standard individual memberships do not cover commercial motor vehicle or CDL/commercial-driving citations.
UTS provides reimbursement benefits. Members remain responsible for court, payment, response, and other legal deadlines associated with a citation.
